BUILT TO EXPOSE EXPO.
08.04.2007 – 07.05.2007
SHIPWRECK TATTOO & ART SPACE, ROTTERDAM.
‘Built to expose’ is an exhibition of skateboards painted by over 70 artists from the Netherlands,
Belgium, Germany, USA and Israel. An extraordinary collection of 80 different pieces
Of art that all started from the same shape: the shape of a skateboard. The pieces of art
Made by: painters, tattooists, skateboarders, sculptors, illustrators, comic artists, graffiti kings, graphics designers and more.’Built to Expose’ is a traveling Expo, from Berlin to Antwerp the decks keep rolling where ever the wind blows…
It all started when Pete (‘Shipwreck’ owner & a tattoo artist) and I wanted to use the shop for exposing creative art and design. We figured since we got a great spot in town and good space in the shop we should use it for the benefit of it all. So I called up the Masters at the ‘Built to expose’ crew and asked them if they would like to expose in Rotterdam for the first time. One thing led to another and before we knew it, the shop was packed with wicked skate art from more then 70 international artists. brilliant artworks if I may say so myself, skate decks had always been my favorite canvas to drop imagery creations.
We had a great skate session on the opening day (in which I broke my left toe in 3 places!!!)
A great demo from Nicky Guerrero from Denmark & the Build to destroy crew.
Big thanks to everyone who helped, specially the artists, ‘Built to Expose’ crew and ‘The Shipwreck tattoo shop’ gang.
